If someone right now were to pose the question to you, “what’s the last thing you need right now?” what would your response be? Chances are you wouldn’t have a quick answer because that’s not a normal question to ask. But, a “broken down air conditioner” could definitely be on the list of the “the last thing you need right now.”
This is particularly true if you are a business owner and we’re talking about a broken-down commercial air conditioning system. You have enough to think about when you’re running a business or managing a commercial space without worrying about your air conditioner.
The good news is, we’re here to help if you do have a commercial air conditioner breakdown. In the meantime, we’d like to share with you some indicators for you and your commercial space occupants to keep an eye out for. Should you become aware of any of these signs, please call us right away so we can inspect and repair the system as needed.
Sign #1: Lukewarm Air Coming from the Vents
There are a variety of symptoms you may come across with a commercial air conditioning system that are subtle to start out with. But, warm air coming out of your vents when the commercial AC is supposed to be on is a pretty apparent sign that something is amiss.
In the absence of a thermostat problem, you may be dealing with a problem like a refrigerant leak, damaged and leaky ductwork, or maybe even reduced airflow that is only presenting as lukewarm air.
Sign #2: An Increase in Your Overhead Costs
Depending on the size of the business you run or commercial space you manage, you might not notice something like an increase in your energy bills right away. But we really want to encourage you to take a look and compare your energy costs this year to that of last year.
Are your bills significantly higher? If the weather doesn’t account for this contrast in use and there isn’t a higher than average demand on your commercial AC, then there’s a good chance that something is causing it to work inefficiently or ineffectively, and it might need repair or even replacement.
Sign #3: Strange Odors Coming from the Vents
Odors coming from your HVAC vents should never be ignored! First of all, depending on the nature of your commercial space, this could point to a number of potential issues. You might have an electrical problem, overheating computers or office equipment, or the problem could be with the AC.
Your commercial AC might have an electrical short, or motor bearings that have worn down and are causing the motor to overheat. But the fact of the matter is, a burning odor isn’t something you want to ever ignore, and you’ll want to let your building’s occupants know to be aware of this as well.
Please reach out to our team if you have any questions or notice any other concerning commercial AC symptoms.
